Research shows that women who have the continuous support of a doula during labour and birth are;

  • less likely to have medical interventions such as pain relief medication, forceps and caesarean,
  • more likely to give birth to their baby naturally,
  • more likely to have a shorter labour,
  • less likely to have a baby with a low Apgar score (measure of baby's physical condition eg. heartrate, breathing, responsiveness, skin colouration, muscle tone).
